Have you ever felt stupid? Like you couldn't solve 2 + 2? Except 4 is the final destination And the steps to solve the equation are tasks like Changing your clothes and remembering to clean your room I'm coming unglued 'Cause amphetamines only go so far They don't change your perception or who you are So decapitate me, put my brain in a jar And tell me how I managed to make it this far Don't know what I'm doing right Let alone what I'm doing wrong So what do I do now? Should I have even written this song? And I know, I confess That on these pills, I'm at my best My true self is a mess I hope that doesn't make you like me less I'm still learning how To pick myself up off the ground And they say it gets better But I'm anxious 'Cause I don't know how to thrive And I am twenty-fucking-five I still don't have these amphetamines Dosed quite right I'm scared of what comes down the line It's keeping me up at night

Tell me, why'd you leave me high and dry again? Am I meant to pretend That I haven't already said what's on my mind? Do I really have to say it all again? And what happens then? How did it not click? What stopped it from sinking in? Why didn't it stick? And how long until I reach the end? Because my patience is wearing thin I'm tired of rehashing words already said Tired of time spent in my bed So listen closely, 'cause I've come alive My true self has arrived No longer accepting the steady decline Of people-pleasing til age 25 See, I've figured out just where the issue lies And are you really surprised To learn that this is not unique to me? That there's generations of us who fawned just to survive? Or that I've grown a spine? I watched you put others before you and me And I'm sorry to say It had to end sometime So listen closely, 'cause I've come alive My true self has arrived No longer accepting the steady decline Of people-pleasing til age 25 So listen closely, 'cause I won't deprive Myself of respect this time No longer accepting the steady decline Of people-pleasing til age 25

about

As 2024 approached, I saw the one and only Tessa Violet post on tiktok about a songwriting challenge she was starting for the month of January, called "WAAIAM" -- or, "write an album in a month." And after eventually getting the ball rolling with a few different song ideas I'd jotted down in late December, I decided that I, too, would attempt to write an album in a month.

Long story short, the attempt to write a full album kinda failed -- but I ended up with this really cool EP! For the first time ever, I wasn't strictly focused on how I was going to play these songs live when I was writing them, just on making them sound as cool as possible. As a very natural result of that, I opened my solo project up to a few friends for collaboration.

Then I got another friend to draw up Scott Pilgrim-style cover art -- because, yes, the EP title/title track IS a Scott Pilgrim reference (in addition to being a genuine declaration of my somewhat newfound self-respect). And THEN I found a mixing engineer (who I ended up getting along with REALLY WELL) in the DIY Discord. And the rest is history!

I'm so sincerely grateful to every single person who helped me bring these tracks to life. So much love to you all.
